I once heard that the guys in the Disney character suits at Disneyworld are actually security guards. That kind of makes sense. They walk around the park all day long, you can't see what they're looking at, and they look harmless. But imagine you stole a purse and suddenly Donald Duck charges and tackles you. He pulls a gun out of his shorts and yells "Freeze, mother*****!" That would scar kids for life.

Well, that's a pretty funny image, but I'm not sure if it's an urban legend or not.
I did find one piece of information on Disneyland security guards:
"The first and most important line of defense is probably the Fox Unit squad. What's a Fox unit you ask? Why, it's a Disney Security guard dressed up like a tourist (or annual passholder for that matter) who roams freely, usually in the shops, and then watches out for any shenanigans."
I'm not sure they'd risk their image by having Mickey frisking someone in front of the kids. Much less having them going Rodney King on somebody. :)
