Baby Fat: Lots to Love Doll

I was at the toy store and I saw a baby doll called Lots to Love. When I saw the slogan "It's just baby fat," my fear was confirmed. It's a fat baby doll. That, to me, is deeply disturbing. In an age where obesity is an epidemic among children, and we're struggling to get them to exercise and eat right, along comes the Lots to Love doll. Telling them fat babies are cuter than healthy babies. What if the kids decide that being overweight would make them cute, too? That just bugs me.

Dear Sir,

It's disgusting the way toy manufacturers push unrealistic and unhealthy body types on children.

LOL @ Letters
That is disturbing. They'll just say that that's what consumers are asking for, but cigarette makers say the same thing.

Dear sir,
It looks OK to me. Hey kids, come to McDonald's playland! Now with non-interactive video games!

I don't think you have to worry about children wanting to be fat. Our society is full of images where we are told SKINNY is beautiful.

Well, can't we settle on something between the two extremes?

that baby doesn't look fat...babies are supposed to be chubby...they turn into toddles and walk or run it all off....nothing unhealthy about that....and as far as Barbie...not really the best doll to use to cast stones...would we rather teach our children that if your not perfect, you are not worth anything?

First of all, the baby does look fat. Period. That's the whole point of the doll. That's not opinion, it's the opinion of the manufacturer.

Second, babies aren't "supposed" to be fat, any more than adults are. It's true that some babies are overweight and pediatricians say not to worry about it, because their weight comes off when they get older. My first baby was like that. But that doesn't mean it's the norm.

I had no idea this post was going to be so controversial...

My husband says it is just a doll! My daughter has loved these doll since she was one she is now six and is still collecting them. This doll does not make the statement you need to be fat she is 6 and only 30lbs and skinny as a rail. Children need to get up and play not sit in front of the BOOB TUBE and VIDEO GAMES!!!!!
