Brother From Another Planet

There's apparently a trailer for the new Hitchhiker's Guide movie out, which I want to see (but haven't downloaded yet), but there's a more pressing issue...Mos Def is playing Ford Prefect?! When did that happen? Did someone tell me this and I forgot? Mos Def, the black rapper from "The Italian Job," is going to be the wacky British alien in Hitchhiker's? I mean, I applaud them for not being racist, but couldn't they have found someone a little more experienced, like the black comedian who played "Chef?" I dunno. This could be a brilliant miscast like John Leguizamo as Clown in "Spawn" or just a miscast. First, they made Marvin a midget with a Ping Pong ball for a head, and now they made Ford Prefect a black rapper. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt, but this might be too much.

Well, I saw the trailer (more like a teaser, I hate those), and it gave me chills. It looks pretty funny. Nice taglines and the symbol is pretty clever. Makes more sense than the planet with its tongue sticking out. Maybe there's hope for this movie, after all.

I think he could be good at it. Ford Prefect is supposed to be hip and cool and who's cooler than Mos Def? It is kind of wierd, but I applaude them for providing some ethinic diversity to the cast since the Hitchhiker's world has always been very white.
As for the accent, think Ocean's Eleven. The Italian Job proved Mos Def has got comedic acting skills. "I-had-a bad-experience!"
I'm looking forward to it.

Just saw the trailer and you're right it gave me chills too!
The logo is great and makes more sense that the green guy (which has become the icon of porn sites anyway) and I love the feel of the movie. Very epic. This is on my must see list!

The director and producer commented on the choice for Mos Def in this article. They make some valid points. It's too bad they couldn't get Tim Burton for this.

I never saw Ford as hip and cool. Zaphod was hip and cool, they should've made him black. Ah well, this is getting almost too fan-boyish even for me. I never wanted to be one of those guys analyzing set photos and debating the color of Wolverine's socks. I'll wait and see.

That article on Mos Def was really interesting. It's always har to cast for something that's so widely and diversly known. The great thing about casting Mos Def, is that he's the exact opposite of what anyone anywhere would have imagined, so he immediately has to be taken as new. Unlike Wolverine where they spent hours arguing about how long his claws should be.
