Quit Whining: R&B Singers

What's up with R&B songs where the guy's whining about how a girl left him? I swear, ninety percent of R&B songs I hear these days are about some guy begging his girl to come back to him or whaling about how he shouldn't have let her go. Have some pride, people. What happened to the good old days? I know where this comes from -- women wanting to listen to some hot guy grovel at their feet or imagining the song is from their ex-boyfriend so they can feel a visceral revenge.

While we're on the subject, what's the deal with R. Kelly? With all his no-way-to-possibly-be-perceived-as-cool illegal shit, how's he still popular?!
Old school R&B guys always used to sing about makin' love to women, right? That was infinitely better than the grovelling.

That's a good question - how does he have a job? I thought the same thing when I saw Pat O'Brien back on the Insider. I'm like "he got on a coke binge and left voicemail so filthy that they can't be described. How does that not kill your career? He's like Ashlee Simpson and Hugh Grant - some celebrities seem bulletproof, and others are crucified because they sneeze funny. Or give racist comments about Jews.

As for makin' love, I agree - never thought that would go out of style in song lyrics. How are we supposed to get a shwerve on to "Mr. Lonely?"

Interesting that there are virtually no songs about women begging to get their men back.
